Our motto is Community Building Community and we aim to work closely with the communities in the Inner West to develop and deliver services and activities which meet local needs.
We encourage residents to get involved through membership and volunteering, or through participating in one of our Programs.
The Canterbury Bike Shed provides a space where bicycles are repaired and recycled. Members are also able to share skills, knowledge and experience and meet others in the community who share similar interests.
The Canterbury Bike Shed meets on the first and third Saturday of each month between 9am and 1 pm. New members are always welcome.
Want to live in a clean and healthy environment? Then come and join environment @ Lakemba, a group of local residents who want to make Lakemba a more attractive and healthy place to live by reducing litter and dumping of household goods. Supported by Canterbury City Community Centre and Canterbury Bankstown City Council the group meets regularly to organise a range of activities including; community education campaigns, clean up days and information stalls at the Haldon St Festival and other local events.
The Lakemba Community Garden was established in 2011 in partnership with Canterbury City Council and offers residents the opportunity to grow vegetables and herbs in the company of other residents. The Lakemba Community Garden is located in Jubilee Reserve on the corner of Railway Pde and Bellevue Ave, Lakemba.
The Garden is a space where local residents can grow their own vegetables and contribute toward sustainable living in Sydney. It is also a place to meet other locals, make new friends, get some exercise and fresh air, learn new skills and build on your gardening knowledge.
The Lakemba Community Hub doesn't refer to a building but to a collection of services and activities available through our two locations in Lakemba. The main office of the 4cs is situated at 130 Railway Pde Lakemba and is open between 9 am and 4 pm. We also deliver a number of groups at The Cottage at 28 Croydon St Lakemba.
The Lakemba Ladies Lounge offers a space where women can meet with other women, participate in an activity, learn something new and just relax. It is run by women for women and is held each Thursday between 10am and 1 pm at The Cottage, 28 Croydon St Lakemba. All activities are free and children are welcome. Morning Tea is supplied.

To understand and respond to local community needs and concerns, the 4cs have undertaken two community wide consultations in 2011 and more recently in 2017. Titled listening @ lakemba the project has been a partnership with Bankstown TAFE and WESTIR with the objective of listening to the needs, issues, likes and dislikes of the people of Lakemba; working with them to define priorities and actions for change; and engaging other service providers and community leaders in this process to inform planning, delivery of services and advocacy.
If there’s one thing that many people in Lakemba feel passionate about, it’s the negative media attention the suburb often receives in the press, radio and television. Tired of the constant bad press that make many residents feel ashamed and frustrated about how their suburb is portrayed, a group of local residents are hoping to change people’s perception by filming the REAL Lakemba.
Mum 2 Mum brings together women with their children aged 0 – 5 years old with the aim to assist newly arrived women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds practice their English language skills and settle in Australia. With our partners Mums 4 Refugees and Hampden park Public School the group meets every Monday between 9.30 am – 11:30 am pm during school term.
The Skills Training and Resource Service (STARS) provides a comprehensive Volunteer recruitment, referral and training service for individuals and not for profit Organisations in the local government areas of Canterbury, Marrickville and Leichhardt and surrounding areas. STARS promotes the concept of volunteering within the broader community, and provides practical support in linking individuals, organisations and communities through volunteer work.
