The objective of the Food Relief service is to assist people in a financial crisis to deal with their immediate crisis situation in a way that maintains the dignity of the individual. The service is supported by food donations received from individuals and organizations.
The food donated is organized into food packages for short-term emergency food relief. These packages contain packet and tinned food, cereals, biscuits, pasta, toiletries, baby food and nappies. The food packages often help individuals or families during a crisis period.
An appointment is necessary and people are asked to bring a Centrelink Statement of Income and ID to their interview.
For a list of other emergency relief services in the local area, phone the Centre on 9750 9344.
The Early Intervention Family Support Service is funded by the Department of Community Services (DOCS) under the Community Services Grants Program (CSGP).
The service aims at encouraging and developing positive relationships within families and promoting environments which value, nurture and protect children.
Many of the programs offered at the Centre actively support families and parents. The family responsibilities of our staff and volunteers are acknowledged through the provision of a family friendly workplace. Our English Classes often discuss parenting issues, and the Co-ordinator and Community Worker have assisted many clients with family related issues. The provision of Family Support Services is not limited to just 3.5 hours per week! The primary activity offered in the Early Intervention Family Support Service is the Women’s Information Seminars.
The Centre offers limited welfare assistance whereby residents can be seen by Centre staff on a one-to-one basis and assistance offered with letter writing or filling out forms, information and referral to other agencies for more intensive specialist support.
The Centre is unable to offer counselling but can refer to local agencies who specialise in this service.
