The Centre is an Incorporated Association with membership open to, but not limited to, people who live, work or study in the Canterbury Local Government Area. Membership is also open to people who are interested in and support the work of the Centre or whose knowledge and qualifications would be of value to the work of the Centre.
Membership is also open to Organisations engaged in social welfare activities or which have a common or similar interest to the Association.
Application for membership is made in writing, signed by the applicant, and on the Centre’s membership form. Payment of the membership fee qualifies the individual for membership for the current financial year.
Applications for membership are considered by the Board of Directors of Canterbury City Community Centre at the next available meeting after an application is made.
The Canterbury City Community Centre Inc. has the right to refuse membership.

Members are asked to agree with the Members Rights and Responsibilities which are a set of guidelines outlining standards of acceptable behaviour for members. It makes clear to everyone what is expected and reduces confusion and possible conflict.
A copy of this is given to all members on joining. All members are asked to read the document and sign the Application Form to signify their agreement.
Failure to abide by the rights and responsibilities will lead to the cancellation of membership from Canterbury City Community Centre.
Members have no liability to contribute to the payment of debts and liabilities of the Centre or to the costs of the winding up of the organisation except to the amount of any unpaid membership.

By becoming a member of Canterbury City Community Centre, you are indicating that you are committed to the Centre's vision and statement of purpose.
Being a member of Canterbury City Community Centre carries with it responsibilities, which include:
- To represent the Centre in a positive way;
- Not to discuss confidential issues of the Centre with people outside the organisation;
- Not giving out/discussing the personal details of any staff, members, clients or volunteers;
- Not harass, in any form, clients, staff, volunteers or other members of the Centre;
- Respect the property of the Centre and not remove any item without management approval.
Canterbury City Community Centre provides a warm, open, safe and non-discriminatory environment for everyone in the community. The Centre has the right to expect certain behaviour from its members, staff and volunteers.
These include:
- The right to expect loyalty to the Centre and only constructive criticism;
- The right to expect enthusiasm and belief in the work the organisation is doing;
- The right to express opinions about poor behaviour of members in a diplomatic way;
- The right to release an undesirable member;
- The right to expect members not to represent the organisation on their own behalf, without clear direction from the management of the organisation;
- Members must observe all the rules of the Centre including those specified in the constitution and any others determined by the Board of Directors.
Being a member of Canterbury City Community Centre offers you the privilege to know that there is a place where you can have a say. It feels good to be able to contribute to the local Canterbury community, your community.
Financial members of the Centre have the following rights:
- Members rights include those specified in the Membership Policy;
- Members can expect to be kept informed of the services and activities of the Centre;
- Members can nominate for membership to the Board of Directors at the Annual General meeting;
- Members may voice their concerns, queries or complaints to the Executive of the Board of Directors;
- Members may receive some services at reduced cost as per the Centre’s fee schedule.
- Members receive the Centre’s quarterly Newsletter.
- Members have equal voting rights at all Annual, Special and General Meetings
