Life Experience Counts

The Life Experience Counts program was funded by the NSW Board of Adult and Community Education through the Local Community Services Association (LCSA) and was run by the Centre in partnership with Bankstown Community College between 1999 and 2011.

The program was offered free of charge and was for women who were unemployed or not in the paid workforce, and/or had limited formal schooling.

Over a structured seven-week period, participants were able to:

  • Identify their skills and experience gained through life experience;
  • Gain a basic understanding of the Recognition of Prior Learning Concept;
  • Produce a simple portfolio which detailed skills and experience, such as a resume;
  • Set directions in employment and/or further formal/informal study.

Participants also identified strategies for building self confidence and could link in to other community activities.

The program particularly suited women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Free childminding was available.

The program was discontinued when funding was no longer available.
