Welcome

We aim to improve the quality of life for people living in our local area and to promote social inclusion and community harmony.
News and Events
STARS is proud to support the Volunteering Video Competition for Young People.
The Australian Government's National Volunteering Strategy identified that the rate of youth volunteering is below the national average and needs to be better supported and encouraged. To increase volunteering participation amongst young people, the Australian Government is launching an online video competition.
The Volunteering Video Competition for Young People invites young Australians to create a video that will promote ways for young people to be involved in their community and capture the enjoyment, fun and social interaction that volunteering brings.
The competition is open from 19 April until 5pm AEST Sunday 22 July 2012.
The theme for the competition is: "Your Passion, Our Nation. Volunteer Now!"
Entrants to the competition will be divided into two age groups:
i. Category A - Aged 15 to under 18 years; and
ii. Category B - Aged 18 to under 25 years.
Entrants are required to submit a 30 to 60 second audiovisual advertisement to promote volunteering to young people. Submissions received will be published online.
Visit the Competition Website (http://volunteering.notforprofit.gov.au) for more information about the Competition.
Canterbury Mens Shed working for you!
The Canterbury Men’s Shed can undertake small projects for local not for profit organisations on request. The service is provided free of charge although reimbursement for materials is appreciated. Previous projects have included making possum boxes for WIRES and a raised garden bed for Garden Care for use by a keen gardener with a disability. If you have a project in mind call Glenn at the Shed on Thursdays and Fridays on 9789 2710 or fill in the Project Request form and send it in.
NSW Community Sector Charter
The NSW Community Sector Charter has been developed by FONGA (Forum of Non Government Agencies) to express to other sectors of society what the community sector is, and promotes a unified community sector by presenting a shared identity, vision and values. Canterbury City Community Centre endorses the Charter. Find out more by downloading the Charter here.
