The Centre is an Incorporated Association and a registered charity. It is governed by a set of rules called a Constitution. The Centre is run by a Community Management Committee which is responsible for the overall governance of the Organisation. The Committee employs twelve part-time staff and approximately 50 volunteers to provide Centre services to the public.
The Centre provides a range of services, programs and activities to people who live and work in the Canterbury Local Government Area, appropriate to the needs of the local community. It is one of 300 community based Neighbourhood Centres in NSW. STARS and Garden Care also provide services to residents of the Marrickville and Leichhardt Local Government Areas.

One of the Centre’s most valuable roles is to provide a forum where people of all ages, from the very young to the very old, men and women, people from different cultural religious and linguistic backgrounds and people with differing life experiences can come together to share ideas, friendships and aspirations. The Centre is one of the few organizations with the potential to involve the whole community in this way.
